Okonjo-Ivila of Nigeria became the first female head of the WTO


Recently, Nigerian economist Ngozi Okonjo-Iwila has been elected as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). She will be the first woman to head the WTO as well as the first African.

Okonzo-Iwila, the former finance minister of Nigeria, will replace Roberto Azevedo, who stepped down in August 2020. The World Trade Organization headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Which was established on 1 January 1995.
