NITI Aayog Released India Innovation Index 2.0

| Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Kerala are ranked in the top five states in the second innovation index released by Niti Aayog on Wednesday. The index was released by NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant. |
Recently, NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Institute for Competitiveness has released the second edition of India Innovation Index on 20 January 2021 by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar.
The India Innovation Index reflects the government’s continued commitment to transform the country into an innovation-driven economy. The report assesses the innovation capabilities and performance of states and union territories.
The innovation index ranking is based on human capital, investment, knowledge worker, ‘business environment,’ security and legal environment enabler standards. Also, the innovation index ranking is based on two performance parameters, production of knowledge, knowledge dissemination.
In the India Innovation Index-2020, states and union territories are divided into 17 major states, 9 city-states and union territories and 10 north-east and hilly states.
Karnataka has secured its first position in the Major States category in the 2020 rankings. Maharashtra has moved up one place to second place while Tamil Nadu has slipped to third place.
In the category of North East and hill states, Himachal Pradesh ranks first and is followed by Uttarakhand and Manipur. Delhi ranks first in the Union Territories and Small States category, while Chandigarh has retained its second position.
