Know how this revolutionary technology detects heart failure in just 8 minutes

Posted by

The research uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to create comprehensive four-dimensional (4D) flow pictures of the heart using a super-fast technology dubbed ‘Kat-ARC,’ which takes only eight minutes, as opposed to traditional MRI, which can take up to or more than 20 minutes.

More about the technique :

A novel technique has been created to identify people who have heart failure in half the time normally required, which can also help patients receive more effective therapy.

According to the news agency PTI, this unique technique was created by researchers from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the United Kingdom.

These 4D flow pictures give a detailed depiction of heart valves & blood flow throughout the heart, assisting clinicians in determining the most appropriate course of therapy for patients.

What does the expert say?

According to PTI, Pankaj Garg, a principal researcher at UEA, has said heart failure is a terrible ailment caused by growing pressures inside the heart.

“The entire crew has been looking at 4D flow MRI, which is among the most advanced techniques of assessing flow inside of the heart.

” Which allows us to investigate the flow.””We can now study the movement in three axes over timeā€”the fourth dimension,” Pankaj Garg stated.

According to a study reported in the journal European Radiology Experimental, the best way for diagnosing heart failure is an intrusive examination, which is not chosen since it is risky.

According to the researchers, an ultrasound examination of the heart known as echocardiography is commonly used to evaluate the maximum velocity of blood circulation thru the mitral valve of the heart, but this approach can be incorrect.

According to HosamadinAssadi, a Doctoral student at UEA, “This innovative technology is changing the way heart disease patients are diagnosed. However, a 4D flow MRI can take up to twenty minutes to complete, as we know most patients hate having lengthy MRI scans.”

About Kat-ARC :

Following that, the researchers studied the dependability of Kat-ARC, a novel approach that employs super-fast ways to assess the circulation in the heart. According to the Ph.D.

Student, this cuts the scanning time in half and requires about eight minutes to properly and precisely diagnose heart failure and determine the maximum velocity of blood circulation in the heart.

The new technique was tested on 50 patients at two hospitals in Sheffield, UK. The latest Kat-ARC 4D heart circulation MRI was used to evaluate patients suspected of having heart failure.
