Padma shri Awarded Sonam Shering Lepcha dies
Recently, the Padma Shri Award honored folk musician Sonam Tshering Lepcha has died. He was born in 1928 in Kalimpong, West Bengal. He started his career as a soldier.
He traveled to various parts of Sikkim and contributed significantly in popularizing Indian folk and traditional Lepcha culture and performed folk music programs on All India Radio in 1960. He was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2007 for his outstanding contribution in the field of folk music.
