Israel successfully launches “Ofek 16” spy satellite into space
The Israeli Defense Ministry has announced the successful launch of a new spy satellite “Ofek 16” in Orbit via a locally developed Shavit rocket from a launch pad of the Palmachim airbase at Center Israel. This is the successful first launch since the Ofek-11 Israeli spy satellite sent to Orbit in September 2016.
About “Ofek 16” spy satellite:
- Ofek 16 is an electro-optical military test satellite equipped with advanced technology including ‘blue and white’ technology and whose payload was developed by the defense venture Elbit Systems.
- The satellite was tested by engineers from the Ministry of Defense and state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries [ISRAI.UL] before it began fully operational.
- After the Ofek 16 satellite becomes operational, IDF’s (Israel Defense Force) 9900 Intelligence Unit will be responsible for its operation.
- OFEC 16 started sending data and circling around the Earth. In addition, it will also monitor Iran and its nuclear and missile programs.
