One could argue that our society is characterized by great technological progress—in other words, the Scientific revolution in which new things emerge each day. We are progressing universally in search for immortality and replication of human body. However, why cannot we fully meet the requirements of those who suffer with disabilities like amputation, polio, etc., including people who move in wheelchairs and those who can’t see? International Day of Persons with Disabilities is very commendable international initiative to create positive image towards people with disabilities.
Initiated with a view to eradicate societal prejudice towards physically challenged persons, these activities gave birth to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On December 3 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared that day to be an annual holiday for people with disabilities. It was later adopted by various countries and now observed around the world including India. India has a body called the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that supervises the affairs related to these problems. Through concerted efforts and appropriate guidance, this day has been celebrated annually since 1992 with different yearly themes.

The theme for International Day of Persons with Disabilities this year is “achieving 17 goals for future.”

We have many unseen people with disabilities around us in our neighborhoods and communities. Statistics indicate that the minority in this regard includes those with disabilities taking up around 13 or 14% of all people on earth. The UN declares the day for persons with disabilities is observed to ensure their rights are not violated in any sphere ranging from social, religious, political, and economic domains. In the society they should be treated as any other person having similar rights and this should also be preached in their minds and there is no room to prejudices.
On this day, persons with disabilities is organized by different international and national bodies who work for persons with disabilities globally and UN. Art collections made by people living with disabilities are displayed in different places around the world. It gives them mental support and people who come to view an exhibition often end up buying something. Furthermore, health camps are set where a lot of medical checks are being carried out and different cultural programs established to keep them in high spirits. The above activities are intended to assimilate them in community where they can be appreciated because they want to.

During the day of persons with disabilities in India, camps and workshops are held at different locations include; Chandigarh, Rewari, Rohtak, Gurgaon, etc. Setting up the “Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment” by the Indian government depicts an undertaking by the government aimed at working towards welfare and development of persons living with disability, either through accidental causes or natural ones.
There are many quotes that people share in this world from the wise. Shriram Aacharya opined that if indeed there is a need to gift somebody, let it be the fire of confidence ignited in oneself. These are the things that these people must be given
