Introduction

It is celebrated every year on December 10th as the International Day for Human Rights. The UDHR was adopted by the UN General Assembly on this very day in 1948. The Importance of Human RightsA just and equitable world has to be based on human rights. These serve to shield people from physical harm and ensure peace and stability. Lastly, human right enables people to engage effectively in the community and society, significant strides have not been made for most countries and it remains difficult to achieve complete realization of human rights across the world. Discrimination, violence as well and poverty still affect millions of people.

History of World Human Rights Day

The first decade is celebrated as “Human Rights’ First Decade.” December 10th is set aside to commemorate every year’s International Human Rights Day and also marked the occasion when the UNDP adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Purpose of World Human Rights Day
