Good Governance Day 2021: On 23 December 2014, the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna was announced to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. After this announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to celebrate 25 December as Good Governance Day.
Good Governance Day 2021: Good Governance Day is celebrated in India on 25 December every year on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Government of India has declared Good Governance Day as a working day for the government.
Importance:
The main objective of celebrating this day is to inform the students and citizens of the country about the duties and responsibilities of the government which they need to fulfil. Good Governance Day serves as a reminder to the government about their responsibilities and is celebrated to spread awareness among the public that the government should be fair, transparent and development-oriented.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee :
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India thrice. His first term served the country for only 13 days in 1996, the second term from March 1998 to April 1999 for a period of thirteen months and then the third term from 1999 to 2004 for a full term. His first entry into the Parliament was in 1962 through the Rajya Sabha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times. In the year 2015, Shri Vajpayee was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
