Public Service Broadcasting Day 2021: Know why Public Service Broadcasting Day is celebrated

 Public Service Broadcasting Day is celebrated every year on 12 November. This day is celebrated every year to commemorate the first and only visit of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947.

On 12 November 1947, Mahatma Gandhi addressed the displaced people (refugees from Pakistan). Those who temporarily settled in Kurukshetra of Haryana after partition. In the year 2000, this day was celebrated in memory of the same day.

This day was declared as Public Service Broadcasting Day or Jan Prasar Diwas in the year 2000. Which was conceptualized by Suhas Borkar, Convener, Jan Prasar. Prasar Bharati was given the responsibility of broadcasting public services, improving democratic traditions and providing opportunities to all diverse communities and cultures.

Mahatma Gandhi had decided to visit the studio of All India Radio to convey his message through radio, as he could not visit the refugees living in Kurukshetra, Haryana after Partition.
