Chhath Puja 2021: Every year Chhath festival falls on Kartik Shukla Shashthi. This time the Chhath festival is being celebrated on 10th November. This festival is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
In the Chhath festival, the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya are worshipped and offered Arghya by observing a fast for 36 hours. It is believed that by performing Chhath Puja every wish is fulfilled. Chhath Puja Material: Two big bamboo baskets, plate, sugarcane with leaves, milk, water, rice, vermilion, lamp, incense, coconut with water, green plant of ginger, pear, sweet potato, turmeric, radish, sweet lemon, custard apple, Banana, Kumkum, Sandalwood, Suthni, Paan, Areca nut, Honey, Incense sticks, Incense sticks, Camphor, Sweets, Jaggery, Rice flour, Wheat.
Chhath Puja Method: On the day of the Chhath festival, after taking a bath in the morning, this mantra is chanted while taking a resolution-
ॐ अद्य अमुक गोत्रो अमुक नामाहं मम सर्व पापनक्षयपूर्वक शरीरारोग्यार्थ श्री सूर्यनारायणदेवप्रसन्नार्थ श्री सूर्यषष्ठीव्रत करिष्ये।
Fasting and Nirjala fast are observed for the whole day. Then in the evening bath is taken in the river or pond and Arghya is offered to the Sun God.
Significance of Chhath Puja: In this festival, along with Sun God, Chhath Maiya is also worshipped. It is believed that Chhathi Maiya protects the children and gives them longevity. This festival is celebrated for family happiness and prosperity and for the attainment of desired results.
