Air India has become the first airline in the world to use a taxiboat in an A320 aircraft loaded with passengers. Taxiboats are used to pull the aircraft from the parking bay to the runway. Ashwani Lohani, chairman and managing director of the national carrier, departed the AI665 flight, which has been taken to the runway using a taxiboat at Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport.
It is a pilot-controlled semi-robotic towbarless aircraft tractor that is used as an optional taxiing device. It will also help reduce boarding gates and apron area by providing efficient pushback to taxiboats. This is the first such experiment on any Airbus Aircraft WorldWide.
