BCCI Gets Approval to use Drones in Cricket Matches
Recently, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation have given conditional approval to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for filming a cricket match this year through a drone above the ground. The drone will be used for live aerial cinematography of cricket matches to be held in the year 2021.
Ministry of Civil Aviation Joint Secretary Amber Dubey said on Monday that ‘the BCCI’s approval to use drones for live aerial cinematography in cricket matches is in line with the central government’s objectives of promoting commercial use of drones in the country’.
BCCI will have to get approval from institutions like Local Administration, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs and Airport Authority of India before using it. BCCI will use the drone camera first in IPL 2021.
In 2017, drones have been used for the Champions Trophy. However, at that time it was limited to analyzing the pitch before the match started. Now after getting the fresh approval of DGCA and Ministry of Civil Aviation, the drone will also be used to cover the match.
