The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs released its “Ease of Living Index -2020” on 4 March 2021. About 111 cities participated in this evaluation.
Recently, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri released the Ease of Living Index 2020. In which Bengaluru topped the cities with more than one million population. While Pune finished second and Ahmedabad third.
A total of 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise conducted in 2020 under the Smart Cities Program. This index shows that Ease of Living is the lowest in Dhanbad, Bareilly and Srinagar.
Shimla has been ranked highest in the list of cities with less than one million population. It is followed by Bhubaneswar. Muzaffarpur city of Bihar was at the bottom of this category.
The centre also published the Municipal Performance Index (MPI). In this index, Indore was ranked first in the category of million-plus cities. It is followed by Surat and Bhopal.
Ease of Living Index: This index is an assessment tool that evaluates the quality of life and the impact of many initiatives for development in urban areas. This index provides a comprehensive understanding of participating cities based on the quality of life, economic capabilities of the city, stability and resilience. This assessment is done with the help of the residents’ viewpoint regarding the services provided by the city’s administration.
