The Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2020 is being conferred on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the culture ministry said on Monday.
Recently, the Ministry of Culture has announced the Gandhi Peace Awards of the year 2019 and 2020 on 22 March 2021. This annual award is given to individuals and institutions for their contribution to political, social, and economic change through non-violence and other Gandhian ideals. It consists of a crore of rupees in cash, a plaque, and a citation.
The Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2020 will be given to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of Bangladesh. The Ministry of Culture reported that the Gandhi Peace Prize of the year 2019 was conferred on the (late) Sultan of Qaboos bin Said Al Said, to strengthen his relations with India and to recognize his efforts to promote peace and non-violence in the Gulf region.
Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award instituted by the Government of India to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1995. This award is given to all persons irrespective of nationality, race, language, caste, creed.
The jury related to the Gandhi Peace Prize was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It consists of two ex-officio members of the jury, the Chief Justice of India, and the leader of the largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha.

(वर्ष 2020 के लिए गांधी शांति पुरस्कार बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रपिता बंगबंधु शेख मुजीबुर रहमान को दिया जाएगा | संस्कृति मंत्रालय मंत्रालय ने बताया कि साल 2019 का गांधी शांति पुरस्कार भारत के साथ संबंधों को मजबूत करने और खाड़ी क्षेत्र में शांति तथा अहिंसा को बढ़ावा देने के उनके प्रयासों को मान्यता देने के लिए ओमान के (दिवंगत) सुल्तान काबूस बिन सैद अल सैद को दिया जाएगा |)
