To tackle this issue, the government has launched the Electric Commercial Vehicle Scheme India as part of the PM E-DRIVE initiative—marking India’s first dedicated effort to promote Zero Emission Truck Policy India.

This applies to electric trucks in the N2 and N3 categories according to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR):

  • N2 category: Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not more than 12 tonnes
  • N3 category: GVW over 12 tonnes and up to 55 tonnes
  • For articulated trucks, the incentive is available only for the N3 category puller tractor.
  • You can receive an incentive of up to ₹9.6 lakh per vehicle, depending on the truck’s Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
  • These incentives are provided as upfront discounts at the time of purchase and are reimbursed to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) through the PM E-DRIVE portal on a first-come, first-served basis.

Zero Emission Truck Policy India: Warranty Requirements for OEMs include:

  • Battery warranty: 5 years or 5 lakh km (whichever comes first)
  • Vehicle and motor warranty: 5 years or 2.5 lakh km (whichever comes first)

Green Mobility Truck Initiative India: Launched By PM Modi

In a remarkable show of leadership in the public sector, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has committed to purchasing 150 electric trucks over the next two years to enhance its operations at various locations. To further its sustainability initiatives, SAIL has also set an ambitious internal target—ensuring that at least 15% of all vehicles hired across its units will be electric.

According to the Green Mobility Truck Initiative in India, to qualify for incentives, old, polluting diesel trucks must be scrapped. This approach not only helps modernize the fleet but also significantly reduces emissions.

  • They need to comply with the FAME II guidelines and Bharat Stage VI emission standards.

How to Apply For Electric Truck Policy in India 2025?

To get started, head over to the FAME India portal or check in with your state nodal agencies.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Provide details about the manufacturer or fleet owner
  • Share the specifications and number of vehicles
  • Outline your plans for charging infrastructure

Once you’ve submitted everything, you’ll receive verification and approval. After that, the subsidy amount will be credited to the manufacturer’s account, which will later be adjusted in the final invoice for the customer.
