The eighth and last of the landing craft utility (LCU) mark-IV class ship was commissioned at an event in Port Blair, a spokesperson of the Indian Navy said.
Recently, a landing craft utility (LCU) ship has been inducted into the Indian Navy on 18 March 2021. Which will be used in various activities such as transport of war tanks and other heavy weapons.
According to the Indian Navy, the eighth and final class four ships of the Landing Craft Utility attended an event held at Port Blair. The ship has been designed and built indigenously by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), Kolkata.
The event was attended by Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command Lt. Gen. Manoj Pandey, Chief Guest and Retired Naval Officer Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena, Director, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE)
The LCU 58 is an amphibious ship that can carry 160 soldiers in addition to its crew. With a carrying capacity of 900 tonnes, the ship is also capable of carrying various types of combat vehicles such as main battle tanks (MBTs), BMSPs, armored vehicles, and trucks, etc.
