Lonar lake of Maharashtra selected as ‘Ramsar site’
Recently, Lonar Lake in Maharashtra has been selected as a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar Conservation Treaty. It is believed that Lonar Lake was formed thousands of years ago by the impact of a meteorite on basalt bedrolls. An area of 365 hectares around this lake, of which about 77.69 hectares was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year June 2000. The Ramsar site is the Wetland site, a site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
(हाल ही मे, महाराष्ट्र की लोनार झील को रामसर संरक्षण संधि के तहत अंतरराष्ट्रीय महत्व के आर्द्रभूमि स्थल के रूप में चुना गया है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि हजार साल पहले बेसाल्ट बेडरोल पर उल्कापिंड के प्रभाव से लोनार झील का निर्माण हुआ था। इस झील के आसपास 365 हेक्टेयर का क्षेत्र, जिसमे करीब 77.69 हेक्टेयर को वर्ष जून 2000 में वन्यजीव अभयारण्य घोषित किया गया था। रामसर साइट वेटलैंड साइट है, जो रामसर कन्वेंशन के तहत अंतर्राष्ट्रीय महत्व के स्थल है।)
