Recently, Perumkulam in Kollam district has got the title of Kerala’s first ‘Book Village’. Its claim to fame is the result of years of concerted efforts aimed at encouraging the habit of reading.
Perumkulam is a small Village in Kulakkada near Kottarakkara in Kollam District. Bapuji Smaraka Grandhasala’, a village library, is at the forefront of this effort to make it the first book village in the state.
The library instils a passion for reading by setting up bookshelves, or ‘book nests’, in different corners of the village. Anyone can take books from Book Nest, read them and put them back.
The great Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair (M.T. Vasudevan Nair) has called it ‘Book Village’. Subsequently, the State Library Council informed the Chief Minister of his unique achievement, and he has officially conferred the title of ‘Book Village’ on Perumkulam on this year’s Reading Day.
(हाल ही मे, कोल्लम (Kollam) जिले के पेरुम्कुलम (Perumkulam) को केरल की पहली ‘बुक विलेज’ का खिताब मिला है| प्रसिद्धि का दावा है कि पढ़ने की आदत को प्रोत्साहित करने के उद्देश्य से वर्षों के ठोस प्रयासों का परिणाम है|)
(पेरुम्कुलम कोल्लम जिले के कोट्टारक्कारा के पास कुलाक्कादा (Kulakkada) में एक छोटा सा गाँव है| बापूजी स्मारक ग्रांडशाला (Bapuji Smaraka Grandhasala)’, गाँव का एक पुस्तकालय, इसे राज्य का पहला पुस्तक गाँव बनाने के इस प्रयास में सबसे आगे है|)
