Jallianwala Bagh Massacre: भारत के इतिहास में जालियांवाला बाग हत्याकांड एक ऐसा काला दिन है जिसकी कहानी सुनकर पत्थर दिल इन्सान भी सहम जाये| 13 अप्रैल, 1919 का दिन किसी भी भारतीय के जहन से न निकलने वाला दिन है| इस दिन अंग्रेजी सेनाओं की एक टुकड़ी ने निहत्थे भारतीय प्रदर्शनकारियों पर अंधाधुंध गोलियां चलाकर बड़ी संख्या में नरसंहार किया था| जिसका नेतृत्व ब्रिटिश शासन के अत्याचारी जनरल डायर ने किया| 

जालियांवाला बाग में उस समय प्रदर्शनकारी रोलट एक्ट का विरोध कर रहे थे| वह रविवार का दिन था और आस-पास के गांवों से आए भारी सख्या में किसान हिंदुओं तथा सिक्खों का उत्सव बैसाखी मनाने अमृतसर आए थे| इस बाग के अंदर जाने का केवल एक ही रास्ता था| जिस पर जनरल डायर ने अपने सिपाहियों को तैनात किया था|

डायर ने बिना किसी चेतावनी के 150 सैनिकों को गोलियां चलाने का आदेश दिया और चीखते, आतंकित भागते निहत्थे बच्चों, महिलाओं, बूढ़ों की भीड़ पर कुछ ही मिनटों में 1650 राउंड गोलियां दागी गई| जिनमें से कई लोग तो गोलियों से मारे गए तो कई अपनी जान बचाने की कोशिश करने में लगे लोगों की भगदड़ में कुचल कर मर गए|  इस घटना में 1000 से उपर निर्दोष लोगों की मौत हुई| 

कुछ समय पहले ही ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री डेविड कैमरन ने जालियांवाला बाग का दौरा किया था| हालांकि, कैमरन ने इस घटना के लिए माफी नहीं मांगी, लेकिन इसे बेहद शर्मनाक करार दिया| इससे पहले भी ब्रिटिश प्रधानमंत्री विंस्टल चर्चिल इस नरसंहार को राक्षसी घटना बता चुके है| 1997 में महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय और उनके पति एवं ड्यूक ऑफ एडिनबर्ग प्रिंस फिलिप ने इस पवित्र शहर का दौरा किया था|

Dyer ordered 150 soldiers to open fire without warning and within a few minutes, 1650 rounds of bullets were fired at a crowd of screaming, panic-stricken unarmed children, women and old men. Many of whom were killed by bullets and many were crushed to death in the stampede of those trying to save their lives. More than 1000 innocent people died in this incident.

Some time ago British Prime Minister David Cameron had visited Jallianwala Bagh. However, Cameron did not apologize for the incident but called it extremely shameful. Even before this, British Prime Minister Winstel Churchill has described this massacre as a monstrous incident. The holy city was visited by Queen Elizabeth II and her husband and Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip in 1997.
