Recently, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has become the first MP to be appointed as a Captain in the Territorial Army. Anurag Thakur has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the 124 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (Sikh).

Speaking to the media, Anurag Thakur said that it is an honour and pride to be part of the Territorial Army and part of the 124 Sikh Regiment.

Anurag Thakur has been a four-time BJP MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. He was appointed as Lieutenant in the Territorial Army in July 2016 by the then Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Dalbir S. Suhag TA.

Earlier, Indian cricket team players Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni were awarded honorary degrees by the Indian Army. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded an honorary title of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force in 2010. Whereas MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the 2011 Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA Battalion).
