In keeping with the tradition of appointing the senior-most Election Commissioner as the Chief Election Commissioner, the government has stamped the name of Sushil Chandra for the top post in the Election House.

Recently, the current Election Commissioner (EC) has announced the appointment of Sushil Chandra as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. He will take over from April 13, 2021. He will replace the current CEC Sunil Arora, who will retire on April 12, 2021.
Sushil Chandra is a 1980 batch IRS officer. He has held different positions in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Chandra, who studied at Roorkee University, did LLB from DAV College, Dehradun.
The Election Commission of India consists of three members, a Chief Election Commissioner, and two Election Commissioners. The two Election Commissioners are Rajiv Kumar and Sushil Chandra.
