UP Panchayat Election: Lucknow High Court’s Bench on Reservation Arrangement
Recently, the Lucknow Bench of the High Court, while giving its verdict on the reservation system for seats in the UP Panchayat elections, said that considering the year 2015 as the original year, reservation should be implemented on the allocation of seats and this process should be completed by 25 March.
Earlier, the UP government itself said that it is ready to implement the reservation system, considering the year 2015 as the original year. On this, a division bench of Justice Rituraj Awasthi and Justice Manish Mathur has passed the order to hold the three-tier panchayat elections till May 25.
The order of 11 February 2021 was challenged in the High Court’s Lucknow Bench. The petition said that issuing a mandate on September 16, 2015, instead of the year 1995, the year 2015 was considered to be the original year and the reservation should be implemented.
In the said mandate itself, it was said that according to the census of 2001 and 2011, a large amount of demographic change has taken place, so it will not be appropriate to implement the reservation considering the year 1995 as the original year.
