This year’s theme shines a spotlight on wetlands as a source of freshwater and encourages actions to restore them and stop their loss.
World Wetlands Day is observed every year globally on 2 February. It aims to raise awareness among people about the important role played by wetlands, ie wetlands, for the Earth.
The international theme of World Wetlands Day 2021 is ‘Wetlands and Water’. The year 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the Convention on Wetlands (wetlands). World Wetlands Day was first observed in 1997.
Wetlands: – This is an area where dense diversity of plant and animal species is found and they are also rich in biodiversity and which is decreasing according to researchers estimate. These are land areas that are always or seasonally saturated or inundated.
Types of wetlands:
2. Inland wetlands: marshland, lakes, wet marshy forest lands, rivers, floods and ponds.
3. Man-made Wetlands: Fish ponds, salt and rice paddy.
World Wetlands Day is observed every year on 2 February 1971, on the banks of the Caspian Sea in the Iranian city of Ramsar, marking the Convention on the Protection of Wetlands on 2 February 1971.

वेटलैंड्स के प्रकार :
2. अंतर्देशीय आर्द्रभूमि: दलदली भूमि, झीलों, जलयुक्त दलदली वन भूमि, नदियों, बाढ़ और तालाब.
3. मानव निर्मित वेटलैंड्स : मछली के तालाब, नमक और चावल के धान.
