India will become the President of UNSC for August, 2021
India will be serving as president of the power 15 nation UN body for August 2021.
India has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and for August 2021, India will serve as the President of the United Nations body. According to the rules, the President of the United Nations Security Council is elected according to the English alphabetical order of the names of the member states. Each member becomes the President in a month by rotation.
For a two-year term beginning on January 1, 2021, India, Norway, Mexico, Ireland, and Kenya were elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on June 17, 2020.
As per the rules, India will preside over the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August 2021. India, Norway, Ireland, Kenya and Mexico were recently elected as non-permanent members of the Council. These countries have been elected for a two-year term which will commence from 1 January 2021.
