IIT-Hyderabad and NVIDIA join hands to set up AI research center
Hyderabad-based Indian Institute of Technology (IITH) has tied up with multinational technology company, NVIDIA to set up India’s first ‘NVIDIA AI Technology Center’ (NVAITC). This center has been set up to speed up research on Artificial Intelligence and this commercial adoption.
Important information related to tie-ups:
- The projects include implementing AI-based solutions to improve crop yields and collaborate for safer transport systems using AI algorithms and better efforts to manage traffic.
- The agreement focuses on improving AI research in aspects of agriculture, smart cities, and language understanding.
- NVAITC will accelerate research for 220 faculty at IITH, already one of India’s leading research institutes.
- It will be based on strong AI capabilities built by IITs, including the country’s first BTech program in AI.
Important facts:
- IITH has already installed two NVIDIA DGX-1TM systems and NVIDIA DGX-2TM systems dedicated to the research being conducted at the institute.
- Government of Telangana has signed 8 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with various companies including NVIDIA on 2 January 2020 with other partners.
- The state government has recently declared 2020 as the ‘Year of AI’. NVIDIA is already a partner of the government in this endeavor.
