World’s largest greenfield zinc smelter to be built in Gujarat
Recently the Gujarat government has signed an agreement with Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) to set up a greenfield zinc smelter in the state. The facility requires an investment of Rs 5000- 10,000 crore in phases, which will create more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and be operational by 2022. The proposed 300 (kilo tons per year) production capacity will provide large employment opportunities to the youth in the local tribal area.
(हाल ही में गुजरात सरकार ने राज्य में एक ग्रीनफील्ड जिंक स्मेल्टर स्थापित करने के लिए वेदांत समूह की फर्म हिंदुस्तान जिंक लिमिटेड (HZL) के साथ एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। इस सुविधा के लिए 5000- 10,000 करोड़ रुपये के निवेश की चरणों में आवश्यकता होनी है, जिससे 5,000 से अधिक प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष रोजगार पैदा होंगे और 2022 तक चालू हो जाएंगे। प्रस्तावित 300 (किलो टन प्रति वर्ष) उत्पादन क्षमता परियोजना से स्थानीय आदिवासी क्षेत्र में युवाओं को बड़े रोजगार के अवसर प्रदान करेगी। )
About the project:
- The first phase of the proposed plant will be operational in 36 months.
- The project will meet domestic and global needs through exports.
- The new facility – the first for Hindustan Zinc in Gujarat, will be installed with zero discharge technology and will be one of the lowest cost smelters in the world.
- It is one of the largest MoUs signed by the state under the new industrial policy of the state, which gives additional benefits to companies investing in backward tribal districts.
- Hindustan Zinc is the world’s largest and India’s only integrated producer of zinc-lead and silver.
