National Mathematics Day is celebrated in India on 22 December every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. This year, the 133rd birth anniversary of Ramanujan is being celebrated across the country.
(भारत में साल 2012 से प्रत्येक वर्ष 22 दिसंबर को महान गणितज्ञ श्रीनिवास रामानुजन की जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में राष्ट्रीय गणित दिवस मनाया जाता है। इस वर्ष देश भर में रामानुजन की 133 वीं जयंती मनाई जा रही है।)
The day was announced to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920) by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 26 February 2012. The year 2012 was celebrated as the first National Mathematics Year.

Srinivasa Ramanujan, who is also known as the ‘man who knew infinity’, did not receive any formal education in Mathematics but made important contributions to the field of mathematics.
