These 10 priority roads are located in a total of 7 border districts of provinces 1, 2 and 5 of Nepal. These roads are also called Hulaki Rajmarg and they connect the major cities on the East-West Highway with the border of India and Nepal.
Recently, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu reported on 31 March 2021, that the Government of India provided assistance of 800 crore Nepali rupees to strengthen road infrastructure in the Terai region in Nepal. This grant has been given under a Memorandum of Understanding.
Under this Memorandum of Understanding, the Nepalese government has identified 10 priority roads to be built under the Government of India funding of NR 800 crore. This road project in Nepal is executed through ‘Government of India funding and implementation by Government of Nepal’.
These 10 priority roads are located in a total of 7 border districts of provinces 1, 2 and 5 of Nepal. These roads are also called Hulaki Rajmarg and they connect the major cities on the East-West Highway with the border of India and Nepal. Under this road project, more than 111 km long drainage network and 652 bridges have been built.
These roads will provide easy and convenient travel for the people of more than 149 villages, 284 wards, 18 municipalities, 18 village municipalities and 1 sub-metropolitan city. The relations between India and Nepal have established another milestone for mutual cooperation in the development of this region.
The Indian Ambassador and the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Nepal have dedicated 13 packages out of a total of 14 packages that have been completed and till now people living in these areas have been using these roads for more than a year.
