Recently IPS officer Subodh Jaiswal has been appointed as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was the most senior officer among the three people elected to the post of CBI Director. Jaisandwith KR Chandra and VS Kaumwere were selected from 109 officials for the top post by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Other members of the committee include Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Choudhary (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury).

Who is Subodh Jaiswal?
- Subodh Jaiswal is a 1985 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, who heads the CISF. Prior to this, he has been in the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner and Maharashtra DGP.
- He was appointed the Mumbai Police Commissioner in 2018 and has also worked with the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the past. Subodh Jaiswal has also worked with the Intelligence Bureau, SPG (Special Protection Group), and R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing) for over a decade.
- The 58-year-old officer was the head of a special investigation team investigating the Rs 20,000 crore fake stamp paper scam, also known as the Abdul Karim Telgi scam.
- He was also part of the team investigating the Malegaon blast case of 2006.
- Subodh Jaiswal was awarded the President’s Police Medal in 2009 for his distinguished service.
