Recently the book “Sikkim: A History of Intrigue and Alliance” published by HarperCollins India has been released on 16 May, which is celebrated as Sikkim Day.
Former diplomat Preet Mohan Singh Malik, in his new book, added insights into the unique history of the erstwhile kingdom of Sikkim with an interesting story of how it became the 22nd state of India. He says that the purpose of this book was to clarify and establish the prominence of strategic issues that were behind India’s decision to accept Sikkim’s demand to merge with India.
Sikkim has become important from a strategic point of view given its proximity to Tibet and the important Siliguri corridor connecting India’s northeastern states with the rest of the country. With many misconceptions about its history and its merger with India in 1975, Sikkim remains an enigma to most people to date.

हाल ही में हार्पर कॉलिन्स इंडिया (HarperCollins India) द्वारा प्रकाशित पुस्तक “सिक्किम: ए हिस्ट्री ऑफ इंट्रीग्यू एंड अलायंस (Sikkim: A History of Intrigue and Alliance)” का विमोचन 16 मई को किया गया है , जिसको सिक्किम दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
पूर्व राजनयिक प्रीत मोहन सिंह मलिक (Preet Mohan Singh Malik) ने अपनी नई किताब में सिक्किम के तत्कालीन साम्राज्य के अनूठे इतिहास में अंतर्दृष्टि को इस दिलचस्प कहानी के साथ जोड़ा कि यह भारत का 22 वां राज्य कैसे बन गया। उनका कहना है कि इस किताब का उद्देश्य रणनीतिक मुद्दों की प्रमुखता को स्पष्ट करना और स्थापित करना था, जो सिक्किम को भारत में विलय करने की मांग को स्वीकार करने के भारत के फैसले के पीछे थे।
तिब्बत से इसकी निकटता और भारत के पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों को देश के बाकी हिस्सों से जोड़ने वाले महत्वपूर्ण सिलीगुड़ी कॉरिडोर को देखते हुए सिक्किम रणनीतिक दृष्टिकोण से महत्वपूर्ण बना है। इसके इतिहास और 1975 में भारत में इसके विलय के बारे में कई भ्रांतियों के साथ सिक्किम भी अधिकांश लोगों के लिए आज तक एक पहेली बना हुआ है।
