Recently the first online meeting of the Employment Working Group has been held in 2021 through video conferencing. This BRICS Employment Working Group meeting has been chaired by India, having held the BRICS Presidency this year. The meeting was chaired by Shri Apoorva Chandra, Secretary, Labor, and Employment.

Important points of this meeting:
The main issues discussed during this meeting were: promotion of social security agreements between BRICS countries, formalization of labor markets, women’s participation in the labor force, and gigs and platform workers – the role in the labor market.
In addition to the BRICS nation, representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the International Social Security Agency (ISSA) also attended the meeting.
