According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, about 5,550 students will benefit from this decision. The government is committed to providing reservations to the backward class and economically weaker sections.
Modi Government’s Big Decision: Taking a big decision on 29 July 2021 regarding reservation in medical education, the Modi government has announced 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 10 percent for Economically Backward (EWS) class in medical education.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted that this decision will be implemented from the 2021-22 session. The government has approved OBC and EWS reservations for All India quota seats for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses.
Under the All India Quota Scheme (AIQ), 5,550 candidates will be benefited every year in MBBS, MS, BDS, MDS, Dental, Medical and Diploma. After this decision of the government, about 1,500 OBC candidates in MBBS and 2,500 OBC candidates in PG will get the benefit of this reservation every year.
The All India Quota Scheme was started in 1986 under the direction of the Supreme Court. The main purpose of which was to help the students of other states to take advantage of reservation in other states also. In the year 2007, the Supreme Court introduced 15 percent reservation for Scheduled Castes and 7.5 percent for Scheduled Tribes in this scheme.
EWS Reservation: In the year 2019, a constitutional amendment was made to give 10 percent reservation to the candidates belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Accordingly, seats were increased in medical and dental colleges so that it would not affect the unreserved category.

(हर साल ऑल इंडिया कोटा स्कीम (AIQ) के तहत MBBS, MS, BDS, MDS, डेंटल, मेडिकल और डिप्लोमा में 5,550 कैंडिडेट्स को इसका फायदा होगा| सरकार के इस फैसले के बाद एमबीबीएस में करीब 1,500 ओबीसी कैंडिडेट्स और पीजी में 2,500 ओबीसी कैंडिडेट्स को हर साल इस आरक्षण का लाभ मिलेगा|)
(ऑल इंडिया कोटा स्कीम 1986 में सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देश के तहत शुरू हुई थी| जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य दूसरे राज्य के स्टूडेंट्स को अन्य राज्यों में भी आरक्षण का लाभ उठाने में मदद करना था| सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने वर्ष 2007 में इस स्कीम में अनुसूचित जाति के लिए 15 प्रतिशत और अनुसूचित जनजाति के लिए 7.5 प्रतिशत आरक्षण की शुरुआत की|)
(EWS आरक्षण: साल 2019 में आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्ग (EWS) के कैंडिडेट्स को 10 प्रतिशत आरक्षण देने के लिए एक संवैधानिक संशोधन किया गया था| इसके मुताबिक मेडिकल और डेंटल कॉलेजों में सीटें बढ़ाई गईं ताकि अनारक्षित वर्ग पर इसका कोई असर ना पड़े|)
