Launching this policy at the Investor Summit in Gujarat through video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described it as a big step before the 75th Independence Day.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Vehicle Scrappage Policy on 13 August 2021. The Vehicle Scrappage Policy is one of the big schemes of the government, which has been the focus in the last few years.
Launching this policy at the Investor Summit in Gujarat through video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described it as a big step before the 75th Independence Day. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced this policy in the Union Budget of 2021.
Scrappage Policy: In the new scrap policy, private vehicles of diesel and petrol have been allowed to run for 20 years. If private vehicles older than 20 years fail to pass the Automated Fitness Test or do not renew the registration certificate, then self-registration will be terminated from June 01, 2024.
Policy Objective: The central government aims to reduce air pollution and vehicular pressure on the roads by removing old vehicles from the roads. Launching the ‘Vehicle Scraping Policy’, Prime Minister Modi said that ‘Vehicle Scraping’ will help in the phase-wise removal of unsuitable and polluting vehicles in an environment-friendly manner.
The scrap material that will be prepared due to scrapping will provide raw material to the automobile industry at a cheap price, which will reduce the cost of making vehicles. Such things will also be obtained from this scrap material which will be useful in the research of electric vehicle batteries.

(प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के जरिए गुजरात में इन्वेस्टर समिट में इस पॉलिसी को लॉन्च करते हुये 75वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस के पहले इसे बड़ा कदम बताया है| वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने साल 2021 के केंद्रीय बजट में इस पॉलिसी को पेश किया था|)
(स्क्रैपेज पॉलिसी: नई स्क्रैप पॉलिसी में डीजल और पेट्रोल के प्राइवेट वाहनों के लिए 20 साल तक चलने की इजाजत दी गई है| 20 साल से अधिक पुराने प्राइवेट व्हीकल यदि ऑटोमेटेड फिटनेस टेस्ट पास करने में फेल हो जाते हैं या रजिस्ट्रेशन सर्टिफिकेट रिन्यू नहीं कराते हैं तो 01 जून 2024 से खुद से रजिस्ट्रेशन खत्म हो जाएगा|)
(पॉलिसी का उद्देश्य: केंद्र सरकार का उद्देश्य सड़कों से पुरानी गाड़ियों को हटाकर वायु प्रदूषण और सड़कों पर वाहनों का दबाव कम करना है| प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ‘व्हीकल स्क्रैपिंग पॉलिसी’ की शुरूआत करते हुए कहा कि ‘व्हीकल स्क्रैपिंग’ पर्यावरण के अनुकूल तरीके से, अनुपयुक्त और प्रदूषणकारी वाहनों को चरणबद्ध तरीके से हटाने में मदद मिलेगी|)
(स्क्रैपिंग की वजह से जो स्क्रैप मटीरियल तैयार होगा उससे ऑटोमोबाइल इंडस्ट्री को सस्ते दाम में कच्चा माल प्राप्त होगा, उससे वाहन बनाने की लागत कम होगी| इस स्क्रैप मटीरियल से ऐसी चीजें भी प्राप्त होंगी जो इलेक्ट्रिक गाड़ियों की बैटरी के रिसर्च में काम आएंगी|)
