During the presidency of the United Nations Security Council, India’s attention will be focused on three important issues maritime security, peacekeeping and counter-terrorism.
PM Modi to chair debate at UNSC on August 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the high-level debate on maritime security in the United Nations Security Council on 9 August 2021. On the other hand, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will chair meetings related to peacekeeping and counter-terrorism on August 18 and 19.
Prime Minister Modi will be the first Prime Minister of the country to chair the United Nations Security Council. The Prime Minister will virtually preside over this program. Keep in mind that on 01 August 2021, India became the President of the Security Council for a month.

Former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said on 31 July 2021 that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the first Indian PM, who has decided to chair the UNSC meeting. This is our eighth term at the UNSC.
