World Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 08 September to show the importance of education in the world and to end illiteracy. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to increase awareness in society towards education.
On this day people are made aware of the role of education and how it can benefit the individual, community and society. This day tries to bring to the fore the role of teachers in the changing education era.
First World Literacy Day: UNESCO declared World Literacy Day in the year 1965. The first World Literacy Day was celebrated on 08 September 1966. Since then till date 8 September is celebrated as World Literacy Day all over the world. In the year 2009-2010, the United Nations was declared the Decade of Literacy. On this day UNESCO presents the International Literacy Prize at its headquarters in Paris.
The theme of World Literacy Day 2021: The main objective of Literacy Day is to inspire people for education. In the changed global scenario due to the Corona pandemic, a new thing like online education has emerged. This time the theme of International Literacy Day is ‘Literacy for Human-Centered Recovery: Bridging the Digital Divide’.
Literacy rate in India: According to the Educational Statistics Report of MHRD released in the year 2018, the literacy rate of India is 69.1 percent. This number is inclusive of both the village and the city. Whereas the literacy rate in rural India is 64.7 percent in which the literacy rate of females is 56.8 percent and that of males is 72.3 percent. The literacy rate in urban India is 79.5 percent of which 74.8 percent of women are educated. At the same time, 83.7 percent of the men are educated.
प्रति वर्ष विश्व स्तर पर 08 सितंबर को साक्षरता दिवस मनाया जाता है| विश्व में शिक्षा के महत्व को दर्शाने और निरक्षरता को समाप्त करने के उद्देश्य से प्रत्येक साल 08 सितंबर को विश्व साक्षरता दिवस मनाया जाता है| इस दिन को मनाने का मुख्य उद्देश्य शिक्षा के प्रति समाज में जागरूकता बढ़ाना है|
इस दिन शिक्षा और उसकी भूमिका के प्रति लोगों को जागरूक किया जाता है कि कैसे यह व्यक्ति, समुदाय और समाज को लाभान्वित कर सकता है| यह दिवस बदलती शिक्षा के दौर में शिक्षकों की भूमिका को सबसे आगे लाने की कोशिश करता है|
पहला विश्व साक्षरता दिवस: यूनेस्को ने साल 1965 में विश्व साक्षरता दिवस की घोषणा की थी| पहला विश्व साक्षरता दिवस 08 सितंबर 1966 को मनाया गया था| तब से आज तक पूरे विश्व में 8 सितंबर को विश्व साक्षरता दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है| साल 2009-2010 में सयुंक्त राष्ट्र साक्षरता दशक घोषित किया था| इस दिन यूनेस्को पेरिस स्थित अपने मुख्यालय में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय साक्षरता पुरस्कार प्रदान करता है|
विश्व साक्षरता दिवस 2021 की थीम: साक्षरता दिवस का मुख्य मकसद लोगों को शिक्षा के लिए प्रेरित करना है| कोरोना महामारी के कारण बदले वैश्विक परिदृश्य में ऑनलाइन एजुकेशन जैसी नई चीज सामने आई है| इस बार अंतरराष्ट्रीय साक्षरता दिवस की थीम ‘मानव-केंद्रित पुनर्प्राप्ति के लिए साक्षरता: डिजिटल विभाजन को कम करना’ है|
भारत में साक्षरता दर: साल 2018 में जारी एमएचआरडी की शैक्षिक सांख्यिकी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भारत की साक्षरता दर 69.1 प्रतिशत है| यह संख्या गांव और शहर दोनों को मिलाकर है| जबकि ग्रामीण भारत में साक्षरता दर 64.7 प्रतिशत है जिसमें महिलाओं का साक्षरता रेट 56.8 प्रतिशत तो पुरुषों का 72.3 प्रतिशत है| शहरी भारत में साक्षरता दर 79.5 प्रतिशत है जिसमें 74.8 प्रतिशत महिलाएं पढ़ी-लिखी हैं| वहीं, 83.7 प्रतिशत पुरुष पढ़े-लिखे हैं|
