On 9 November 2000, Uttarakhand was included as the 27th state after several years of agitation for the demand of Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day: Every year November 9 is celebrated as the foundation day of Uttarakhand. Because after many years of agitation for the demand for separate Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand was finally recognized as the 27th state on 9 November 2000.

From the year 2000 to 2006 it was known as Uttaranchal, but in January 2007 its official name was changed to Uttarakhand, respecting the sentiments of the local people. Tibet in the north of Uttarakhand and Nepal in the east, which is a part of Uttar Pradesh. Whereas Himachal Pradesh is in the west and Uttar Pradesh is in the south.

In Hindi and Sanskrit, Uttarakhand means northern region or part. Uttarakhand is also known as Devbhoomi or the land of gods because along with many ancient religious places, this state is the origin of the country’s largest rivers Ganga and Yamuna, considered the most sacred in Hinduism.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day: प्रति वर्ष नौ नवंबर को उत्तराखंड के स्थापना दिवस के तौर मनाया जाता हैं| क्यूकि पृथक उत्तराखंड की मांग को लेकर कई वर्षों तक चले आंदोलन के बाद आखिरकार 9 नवंबर 2000 को उत्तराखण्ड को 27 वें राज्य के रूप में मान्यता मिली थी| 

वर्ष 2000 से 2006 तक इसे उत्तरांचल के नाम जाना जाता था, लेकिन जनवरी 2007 में स्थानीय लोगों की भावनाओं का सम्मान करते हुए इसका आधिकारिक नाम बदलकर उत्तराखण्ड कर दिया गया| उत्तर प्रदेश का हिस्सा रहे उत्तराखंड के उत्तर में तिब्बत और पूर्व में नेपाल हैं| जबकि पश्चिम में हिमाचल प्रदेश और दक्षिण में उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य हैं|

 हिन्दी और संस्कृत में उत्तराखण्ड का अर्थ उत्तरी क्षेत्र या भाग होता है| उत्तराखंड को देवभूमि या देवों की भूमी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है क्योंकि कई प्राचीन धार्मिक स्थलों के साथ ही यह राज्य हिन्दू धर्म में सबसे पवित्र मानी जाने वाली देश की सबसे बड़ी नदियों गंगा और यमुना का उद्गम स्थल है|
