Life of Chaudhary Charan Singh (23 December 1902 – 29 May 1987)
Introduction:
Chaudhary Charan Singh was a former politician and the fifth Prime Minister of India. He held the post of PM from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980. Chaudhary Charan Singh lived his entire life in the dignity of Indianness and the rural environment.
Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in a Jat family in Nurpur village, Tehsil Hapur near Babugarh Cantonment. He entered politics during the independence movements. After independence, Chaudhary Charan Singh participated in the rural reform movement of Ram Manohar Lohia.
Taking law education from Agra University, in 1928, Chaudhary Charan Singh started advocacy in Ghaziabad with honesty, frankness and conscientiousness. In the Lahore session of Congress in 1929, influenced by Purna Swaraj, Yuva Charan Singh formed the Congress Committee in Ghaziabad. In 1930, influenced by the Civil Disobedience Movement by Mahatma Gandhi, Charan Singh made salt on the Hindon river flowing on the border of Ghaziabad. As a result of which Charan Singh was sentenced to 6 months. After his return from prison, Charan Singh devoted himself completely to the freedom struggle under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
Political life:
On July 1, 1952, due to his struggle in UP, the Zamindari system was abolished and the poor got rights. In the interest of farmers, Charan Singh got the Uttar Pradesh Land Conservation Act passed in 1954.
Charan Singh became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 3 April 1967. On 17 April 1968, he resigned from the post of Chief Minister. He got good success in the mid-term elections and again on 17 February 1970 he became the Chief Minister. After that he became the Home Minister in the Central Government, then he established the Mandal and Minorities Commission. Established National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development [NABARD] in 1979 as Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. On 28 July 1979, Chaudhary Charan Singh became the Prime Minister with the help of socialist parties and Congress (U).

Chaudhary Charan Singh passed away on May 29, 1987, at the age of 84. He had a sense of loyalty towards the country. He was a true well-wisher of the farmers. His name will be known in history as more of a farmer leader than a prime minister.
