Indian navy day 2021: Navy day is celebrated every year on 4th December. Navy Day is celebrated to celebrate the victory of the Indian Navy in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. On this day the soldiers of the Navy are remembered.
Navy Day was first celebrated in India along with Trofaglar Day of the Royal Navy. The Royal Indian Navy celebrated Navy Day for the first time on 21 October 1944. The purpose of celebrating this was to increase awareness about the Navy among the common people. After that from 1945, after the Second World War, Navy Day was celebrated on 1 December. After this, Navy Day continued to be celebrated on 15 December till 1972 and from 1972 till now it is celebrated on 4 December only.
The Indian Navy is the maritime branch of the Armed Forces of India. It is headed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the President of India. The 17th century Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhonsle is considered the father of the Indian Navy. The headquarters of the Indian Navy (Indian Navy Day 2021) is located in Mumbai.
