Life introduction:

Shastri, who lived a simple life, was born Munshi Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2 October 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. He was the youngest in his house, so he was affectionately called little. His mother’s name was Ram Dulari and his father’s name was Munshi Prasad Srivastava. While Shastri’s wife’s name was Lalita Devi.

 

Lal Bahadur Shastri was educated at Harishchandra High School and Kashi Vidyapeeth. After getting the title of Shastri from Kashi Vidyapeeth, he always removed the caste word Srivastava from birth and put ‘Shastri’ in front of his name. After this, the word Shastri became synonymous with the name of Lal Bahadur.

 

Lal Bahadur Shastri was married at the age of 24 to Lalita, the daughter of Ganesh Prasad, a resident of Mirzapur. Lalita and Shastriji had six children, two daughters – Kusum and Suman and four sons – Harikrishna, Anil, Sunil and Ashok etc. Of his four sons, two – Anil Shastri and Sunil Shastri – are present, the remaining two have passed away. Anil Shastri is a senior leader of the Congress Party while Sunil Shastri is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Political life:

Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji received education up to graduation level in Sanskrit language, after that he joined the Bharat Sevak Sangh and started his political career from here, taking a vow of service to the country. In the freedom struggle, he played an important role in the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1921, the Dandi March of 1930 and the Quit India Movement of 1942.

 

On 9 August 1942, Shastriji reached Allahabad and cleverly raised the Gandhian slogan of this movement, “Don’t die, kill!” and unexpectedly the revolution gave a severe form to the whole country. Shastriji was arrested on 19 August 1942 after running this movement while remaining underground for eleven days.

 

Prime Minister’s tenure:

Climbing the steps of success one after the other, he reached the main post of Home Minister in Nehru’s cabinet. And not only this, after the death of Nehru, he took the post of Prime Minister on 09 June 1964. He was the Prime Minister of the country for about 18 months. Under his leadership, India defeated Pakistan in the 1965 war.

 

Death:

He died on the night of 11 January 1966 after signing an agreement to end the war with the President of Pakistan Ayub Khan in Tashkent. Which remains a mystery to date.
