International Mother Language Day 2022: Every year 21 February is celebrated as International Mother Language Day. Its objective is to promote linguistic awareness, cultural diversity and multilingualism.
International Mother Language Day: UNESCO General Assembly in November 1999 announced to celebrate 21 February as International Mother Language Day every year since 2000 to draw the world’s attention towards the protection and promotion of endangered languages around the world.
History:-
International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on 21 February 2000. After which the United Nations passed a resolution declaring 2008 as the International Mother Language Year. The idea of celebrating Mother Language Day is an initiative of Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, February 21 is celebrated as the anniversary of the struggle for acceptance of the Bengali language.

What is mother tongue?
The mother tongue is the identity of a person. If you have your mother tongue then it is understood in the society that your culture has one identity, one existence at the global level. We have a powerful weapon to raise our point in our society. But many times people are ashamed to speak their mother tongue in public places in order to look civilized and progressive in the color of so-called modernity which is very indecent behavior.
In the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India, 22 scheduled languages are listed as official languages of the states. States are not compelled to choose their official language from the scheduled languages. According to the constitution, parliamentary proceedings will be conducted in Hindi or in English. The constitution also allows a person to express himself in his mother tongue if the person is unable to express himself in Hindi or in English. However, this requires the permission of the Speaker of the House.
