International Day of Action for Rivers 2022: International Day of Action for Rivers is celebrated every year on 14 March. The purpose of which is to stop the increasing pollution in the rivers, to make people aware of the measures to protect the rivers and to improve the policies made for them.
Rivers provide life not only for humans but also for animals, birds and plants. It is possible to imagine life without water, but the pollution spread in the environment and the dirt produced by humans are putting the existence of rivers in danger. The revered river Ganga in India is also not untouched by it. In such a situation, if the conservation of rivers is not taken care of, then the situation can become dangerous.

History of International Working Day:
The International Day of Action for Rivers for Dams and Rivers began on 14 March 1997 at the first international meeting of people affected by dams in Curitiba, Brazil. After which 14 March every year was celebrated as “International Day of Action for Rivers”. Initially, the representation of 20 countries had nominated on March 14 and all took an oath together that special attention would be given to the maintenance and safety of all the big dams in the world. At present more than 100 countries have joined it.
