The objective of World TB Day:

The purpose of World TB Day is to create awareness among people about TB and its prevention. World TB Day is observed to raise awareness about serious bacterial disease affecting lung health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), most people who become ill with TB live in low- and middle-income countries, but TB is present all over the world.

History:

German physician and microbiologist Robert Koch discovered the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis on 24 March 1882. His discovery later proved to be very helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of TB. That’s why World TB Day is celebrated every year on 24 March.

The Nobel Prize was awarded in the year 1905 for the contribution of Robert Koch. That is why every year the World Health Organization (WHO) has been celebrating this day to spread public awareness around the world on the social, economic and health consequences of TB and to accelerate efforts to eliminate TB from the world.
