World Theater Day 2022: Know why this day is celebrated only on 27 March
World Theater Day is celebrated every year on 27 March. Which is supported by theatre/theatre communities. It is promoted and broadcast by the International Theater Institute (ITI), through its centers.
Theme:
This year’s theme is “World Theater Day Celebrations Focused on Youth, Upcoming Generation and Emerging Artists”, which has been a main focus of ITI over the years. ITI, through its 60-year-old ITI flagship program, seeks to provide a platform to the next generation of artists and art professionals to exchange ideas and present themselves to the world.

History:
The day began with the establishment of a World Theater Day by the Finnish Center of ITI at the 9th World Congress of ITI in Vienna, following the proposal of ITI US President Arvi Kivima in June 1961. This proposal was supported by the Scandinavian centers of ITI and these centers promoted it with great eagerness and enthusiasm.
Since 1962, World Theater Day has been celebrated on 27 March by ITI Centres, ITI Associate Members, Theater Professionals, Theater Organizations, Theater Universities, and Theater Lovers across the world.
