One of the biggest software businesses in India, HCL Technologies, is rumoured to have fired hundreds of workers. Employees who were primarily responsible for news-related products for the Indian software company’s client Microsoft have reportedly been let go, according to Money control.
The decision to decrease the personnel, according to the report’s sources with direct knowledge of the situation, was made public last week during a town hall meeting.
Why the HCL is firing hundreds of their employees?
The report claims that the sacked workers in HCL came from a variety of countries, including Guatemala, the Philippines, and even India.
The software company also said that any sacked employees will receive severance pay in the future. The corporation has stated that these employees’ final day will be September 30.
Will the matter will effect on their other services too?
HCL used to monitor, curate, and edit articles from nations such as India, Europe, and the United States for its news portal MSN, and one of the laid-off workers claimed that “Microsoft had a problem with the quality of work.”
Recently, they automated the procedure for keeping track of international news as well. Other products and departments that have been impacted include trending on Bing, geopolitical news curating, comment moderation, tabloid hit applications, and transformation by Teams. Two years ago, Burda Media managed this website.
HCL’s contract has ended, and according to individuals familiar with the matter, Microsoft is expected to offer the contract to another vendor, who may be Accenture, another big IT company.
The corporation hasn’t formally announced the vendor switch or layoffs, though. According to an official statement from HCL, “Our Technology & Services vertical continues to enjoy tremendous growth and is one of our fastest growing categories.”
CEO of google has also urged their employees to give their all
The decision by HCL to fire hundreds of workers comes at a challenging time for the tech sector.
The recent layoffs of some or all of its staff members at some of the biggest technology businesses in the world, including Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, and many others, are being blamed on the current state of the economy.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, has meanwhile urged staff members to give it their all and urged supervisors to closely monitor output.
Is firing workers is limited to HCL only ?
According to a recent research cited by IANS, at least half of all businesses globally have plans to fire workers, and the majority are also cutting bonuses and terminating job offers.
In spite of company executives’ continued worry over finding and keeping people, 50% of respondents in the most recent PwC “Pulse: Managing Business Risks in 2022” poll in the US are cutting their overall headcount.
Hard time for the tech sector:
The worst has yet to come for the tech sector, which has suffered a big market sell-off, as more than 32,000 tech professionals have been laid off in the US as of July, including at Big Tech companies like Microsoft and Meta .
Since the pandemic started in India, more than 25,000 start-up employees have lost their jobs; this year alone, more than 12,000 people have been let go.
