52nd Dadasaheb Phalke award to go to Asha Parekh

Asha Parekh will get the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2020, according to the Information & Broadcasting Ministry. The prize will be handed out in New Delhi during the National Film Awards ceremony.

“I am honoured to inform you that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise & award Ms Asha Parekh Ji for her extraordinary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema,” stated Union Minister Anurag Thakur in making the announcement.

The Minister also revealed that President Draupadi Murmur will preside over the 68th National Film Awards, which will be held on September 30, 2022.

In 1992, Parekh received the Padma Shri. From 1998 to 2001, she also led the Central Board for Film Certification. 

The renowned actress, director, and producer debuted in Dil Deke Dekho as the main character after beginning her career as a child actor.

She has appeared in over 95 films, including Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, and Kati Patang.

Asha Bhosle, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, T. S. Nagabharana, and Udit Narayan served on the jury for the selection of the 52nd Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award:

In Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honour. The award, which was established in 1969, is the highest honour bestowed to an artist in Indian cinema.

A few of the honourees from the past are Lata Mangeshkar, Mrinal Sen, Amitabh Bachchan Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra and Vinod Khanna.

The honour was originally won by Devika Rani, and the most recent winner was the superstar Rajinikanth in 2021.
