BVR Subrahmanyam, a senior IAS officer, has been appointed as the next CMD of ITPO

When he was appointed?

BVR Subrahmanyam (lAS) has been appointed as the India Trade Promotion Organization’s new Chairman and Managing Director (ITPO). On September 15, the Cabinet Appointments Committee approved Subrahmanyam’s appointment. 
Subrahmanyam, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Services officer from Chhattisgarh cadre, is currently the Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

What will be the tenure?

“Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, lAS (CG:87), Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry as Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organization on contract basis for a period of two years in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India upon his superannuation on 30.09.2022,” stated DoPT order 36/1/2022-EO(SM-1) issued on September 15. Senior IAS Subrahmanyam has been appointed to the post on a two-year contract basis.
Interestingly, the current CMD of the ITPO, LC Goyal, was given a fifth one-year tenure extension in September of last year. Goyal retired in 2015, and he has been given new extensions every time his tenure has ended since then.

More about BVR Subrahmanyam

BVR Subrahmanyam is from Andhra Pradesh. In addition, he holds a management degree from London Business School. Subrahmanyam worked in the PMO from 2004 to 2008 and again from March 2012 to March 2015, under Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi. In between PMO assignments, he worked for the World Bank.
He was transferred to Chhattisgarh in 2015 as a principal secretary, then as an Additional Chief Secretary (Home). During his time there, he was also charged with jail and transportation. Subrahmanyam was appointed by the Cabinet Appointments Committee.
