India’s first cervical cancer vaccine ever! Launching today, you’ll get to know it here.
The most awaited vaccine for cervical cancer is to be launched today by the Union Minister of State IC (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, Jitendra Singh.
The vaccine has been named “Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (qHPV), this vaccine is
developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) authorized Serum Institute’s vaccine on 12 July for
the market.
What does the expert say?
The Chairperson of the Covid working group – National Technical Advisory Group of Immunization (NTGAI), Dr. N.K. Arora said that it’s a great achievement to launch a made-in-India vaccine for
such harmful viruses.
Now our daughters and granddaughters will be able to get this vaccine and stay safe from the dangerous virus. There’s hope for this vaccine to be launched in the National Immunization Program for 9-14 years old girls who are in the pre-puberty stage.
Dr. Arora added that this vaccine is very effective and prevents cervical cancer because 80%- 95% of cervical cancer is caused due to the virus. This vaccine is mainly made against those viruses. So, if it is given to our young daughters then they will be safe from getting this virus and they are protected, probably 30 years later cancer doesn’t occur.
He added that there was a shortage of vaccines in the world and now India has also taken a step forward. So, it will help to reduce the danger.
What WHO says?
According to (World Health Organization) WHO’s data, 41,91,000 women died because of cervical cancer in India since 2019.
What is Cervical Cancer?
When cancer starts in the cervix then it is called cervical cancer. All women have the risk of getting cervical cancer. It mainly occurs in women above the age of 30. The main cause of cervical cancer is the human papillomavirus (HPV).
If cervical cancer is found at an early stage then it can be treated highly with a long survival & good quality of life.
About HPV Vaccine :
The HPV vaccine is mainly made against the HPV (Human papillomavirus) which most often
causes cervical, vulval, and vaginal cancers.
Till now India was dependent upon foreign states for HPV’s vaccines. But the vaccine is going to be launched today and India will get its first self-developed qHPV vaccine ever.
