The majority of the UV energy that the sun’s rays send toward the planet is absorbed by the ozone layer, a protective layer in the atmosphere. It has a significant amount of ozone and is located at an altitude of around 10 km (6.2 miles).

World Ozone Day: A Step To Aware People

We place such a high value on preserving the ozone layer that we have set aside a day to raise awareness and educate the public about it.

Every year on September 16, the Ozone layer is the focus of action and attention worldwide as part of World Ozone Day or the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. and spread knowledge about the problem of ozone layer destruction.

United Nations declared 16 September as ozone day

The United Nations General Assembly declared September 16 to be World Ozone Day. In remembrance of the day in 1987 when nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the designation was made on December 19, 2000.

Montreal Protocol

An international pact to preserve the ozone layer gave rise to the Montreal Protocol.

The Montreal Protocol’s primary purpose was to take action to reduce the number of compounds that destroy the ozone layer that is produced and consumed globally, with the ultimate goal of “eliminating them based on improvements in scientific understanding and technical information.”

Montreal protocol has made good progress

“A coordinated multinational effort to phase out ozone-depleting substances is now closing the hole in the ozone layer, protecting human health, economies, and ecosystems in the process.

The Montreal Protocol, however, provides much more, as this year’s World Ozone Day tries to emphasize, including slowing climate change and assisting in the improvement of energy efficiency in the cooling sector, which supports food security “reads the Ozone Day page from the UN.

The UN reports that both developed and developing nations have made good progress toward putting the Montreal Protocol into practice.

The history behind World Ozone Day’s

In 1994, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was declared by the United Nations General Assembly.

This was done to mark the day when the governments of 46 different countries across the world signed the “Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer” in 1987. The “Montreal Protocol” was yet another name for it.
