B.Neeraja Prabhakar becomes new chairman of Oil Palm RAC

Vice Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University B. Neeraj Prabhakar has been appointed as the chairman of the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) for the ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR) at Pedavegi, Andhra Pradesh.

Ms Prabhakar’s appointment as RAC chairperson is effective from June 13 and she will chair the ten-member committee for a period of three years.

In addition, B.Neeraja Prabhakar serves as a member of the Telangana Oil Palm Advisory Committee, which advises the state government to expand the area devoted to oil palm cultivation, address issues related to oil palm cultivation, and develop the oil palm processing industry. Advises on matters such as support.

He expressed Telangana’s commitment to address the shortage of edible oil in the country by expanding oil palm cultivation to 20 lakh acres with a target to reach at least 10 lakh acres within the next four years.

It is noteworthy that Telangana boasts of the highest oil recovery rate from oil palm bunches produced among all states in India.

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR) at Pedavegi is the only institute of repute in India dedicated to research on oil palm and developing technologies applicable to all oil palm-producing states.

The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) will play a key role in providing guidance to IIOPR with respect to research initiatives, especially focusing on addressing the challenges faced by oil palm farmers across the country.
