Indian Diaspora Day 2024

There is a national event called NRI Day held annually on January 9th where India recognizes and honours the contribution that Indians in the diaspora have made to India’s development. This is a day that is celebrated in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi returning to India from South Africa where he assisted India in their struggle for independence.

NRI Day offers the government a great chance to reach out to Indians spread across the globe. It is one of the ways through which the diaspora communicates globally and shares a common identity.

Indian Diaspora Day 2024 History

For the last decade, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has been organizing this convention every year since 2003. Nonetheless, since 2015 these celebrations have been held on a biennial basis. Additionally, PBD organizes interim theme-based PBD conferences whereby stakeholders meet and discuss with relevant policymakers and scholars of the diaspora on urgent issues.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2024 Theme

The function of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is to thank those Indians living in other countries who have supported and contributed towards Indian development through their resources. However, the most notable aspect of this festivity is the PBD convention that touches upon issues such as the contribution towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat in recent times.

Honoring Achievements: Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award

It is on this day that the most honorable Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award for non-resident Indians is awarded. This is an award given to those individuals who have contributed substantially towards global philanthropies and Indian advocacies worldwide.
